On Saturday, Shreyas Iyer shut his critics with a knock of 142 off 190 for Mumbai against Maharashtra in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season.

Shreyas Iyer ended his century drought in first class cricket as he notched up a brilliant hundred in the Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Maharashtra.

Shreyas Iyer's last First-Class century came while representing India in November 2021 against New Zealand in Kanpur. During this innings, he also surpassed the milestone of 6,000 First-Class runs

Mumbai's team witnessed two remarkable performances in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Maharashtra. Seventeen-year-old Ayush Mhatre smashed a brilliant maiden first-class century, while his senior pro-Shreyas Iyer made a roaring comeback to form with a crucial hundred after a string of low scores.

Starting the day with a lead of nearly 100 runs, Mumbai continued its dominance with unbeaten Shreyas and Ayush Mhatre stitching together a 200-run partnership and the latter also scoring a century.

Ruturaj Gaikwad hit an unbeaten 80 to lead a strong reply for Maharashtra but they were still trailing by 173 runs in their Group A Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai on Saturday. Maharashtra reached 142 for one in their second innings at the end of the second day.

Walking in at number five for Mumbai at the loss of skipper Ajinkya Rahane who looked well set at 31, Shreyas Iyer steered Mumbai past Maharashtra’s first-innings score alongside young opener Ayush Mhatre,

Iyer was a key player for India across formats last year, particularly shining in the World Cup, where he scored 468 runs, including two centuries and three half-centuries.

The century marked an end to a long drought for Shreyas Iyer, who has been excluded from India's Test set-up since India's home Test series against England in early 2024.
